What you are experiencing is a challenge for everyone who works alone... for a period you invest in marketing then the business comes, you are busy with the business and can't do much marketing so as time goes on you run out of business. Then you have to start marketing again and waiting for the next round of business. I don't know many folks who don't go through the ebb and flow you describe. The key is not to let yourself start feeling like the slow times are because you're not good at what you do. Recognize the rhythm and keep looking for ways to shorten the slow times. One thought to help with the slow times is to charge more for your work during the busy times. Then you won't be so worried about the banker and it will be easier to stay positive.

Marion, Very nice post. I can totally relate to this world--it is one I love, but has so much frustration. Thank you for sharing this.

So touched that my writing resonated with you, Angela. Deeply appreciate that you took the care to drop by and comment.
"I'm always here to share the ebb and flow", across the big pond could be the tittle of a song on social media connections.
Gratitude flowing back to you,
Marion

What a courageous and inspiring post, Marion! Gratitude for saying what many of us experience. This resonated with me in so many ways. Like you, I survive on contract work. And the ebb and flow is extremely stressful. I, too, remind myself to become mindful during the stressful times, and to be grateful for all the good things, especially those that mean the most to us. Like you, I also love trees, especially cherry trees this time of year--a beautiful illustration and a beautiful post! I know I will revisit this post to be inspired by your spirit. :-) "This too shall pass" are the wisest words.
I value your friendship and am always here to share the ebb and flow.
Sending love across the big pond,
Angela
